William Osborn
Partner
William Osborn is the Founding Partner of the
Massachusetts Green Energy Fund. He also currently manages
Commons Capital, LP, a venture fund focusing
on energy, healthcare, and environment
investments. Mr. Osborn has served as a special partner with Arete Corporation,
which manages $135 million in utility industry
investments. Prior to that, he was
a principal at Venture Investment Management
Company, LLC (VIMAC), which invests in early stage
IT and healthcare companies.
Mr. Osborn has an entrepreneurial
background in the environmental and energy field, founding
and managing an electric vehicle distribution
subsidiary for a major utility company and
starting a business development consulting
firm. He also co-managed a venture capital
fund for automaker BMW and was a management
consultant with Arthur D. Little, where
he led a consulting practice involved with
new energy technologies. Prior to his consulting work, Mr. Osborn
practiced law and managed a state government
office promoting solar energy. Mr. Osborn
sits or has recently been on the boards
of several start-up and expansion-stage
companies, including Evergreen Solar, Inc.
(Nasdaq:ESLR), Domini Social Investments, World Power Technologies,
Inc., Evolutionary
Technologies, Inc., Surgical
Sealants, Inc., Fingerlakes Aquaculture LLC, and Conservation Services
Group.
Mr. Osborn is a founding Trustee of the
Domini Social Equity Fund and Board Member
of Investors Circle, where he has
also chaired the Selection Committee that
selects companies to present to members
for investment. He holds a BA from Princeton
University and a JD from George Washington
Law School.
