Leon, Chair
Dr.
Warren Leon is the Director of the
Massachusetts Technology Collaborative’s
Renewable Energy Trust (RET), the $150
million fund that was created to stimulate
the supply of and demand for clean energy as
part of the state’s landmark law
deregulating the electric utility industry
in 1997. Prior to being appointed RET
Director in January 2006, Dr. Leon
served in other capacities with the
organization, first as the Clean Energy
Program Director and then as Deputy Director
of the Trust. He has worked on energy
and environmental issues for more than 15
years. Before joining MTC, Warren was
Executive Director of the Northeast
Sustainable Energy Association. Before that,
he was Deputy Director for Programs at the
Union of Concerned Scientists. He is
co-author of the popular book The
Consumer’s Guide to Effective
Environmental Choices (Three Rivers
Press, 1999) and also co-authored Is
Our Food Safe? A Consumer’s Guide to
Protecting Our Health and the Environment
(Three Rivers Press, 2002). He received his
undergraduate degree from Oberlin College in
1972 and a Ph.D. from Harvard University in
1979.
Mark
Farber
Mark Farber has 27 years of experience
in the energy industry. He is currently
Vice President of Marketing and Business
Development, a member of the Board of Directors,
and a Co-founder of Evergreen Solar, Inc.,
a manufacturer of crystalline silicon solar
power products. From the Companys
founding in 1994 until 2003, he was President
and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to founding
Evergreen Solar in 1994, Mr. Farber worked
at Mobil Solar Energy Corporation, the solar
division of Mobil Corporation, where he
was responsible for marketing, sales, and
corporate partnering activities. From 1976
to 1988, Mr. Farber was a consultant at
Temple, Barker and Sloane, now Mercer Management
Consulting, where he advised electric utilities,
equipment manufacturers, and government
agencies on economic, business, and policy
issues related to energy. Mr. Farber has
a BS in industrial engineering and operations
research from Cornell University , and a
MS in management from MITs Sloan School.
Alain
Hanover
Alain Hanover is currently the Managing
Director and CEO of Navigator Technology
Ventures, the venture fund affiliated with
Charles Stark Draper Laboratory at MIT.
Mr. Hanover has over 30 years of experience
in venture capital, executive management,
software development, and engineering. He
has served as CEO for over 15 years at InCert
and Viewlogic, as well as being an early
stage investor or advisor in over 20 private
companies. He also co-founded CommonAngels,
Boston 's leading Angel Investor group.
Most recently, he served as Managing Partner
of Main Street Partners, a seed-stage, venture
capital firm, where he helped launch five
start-ups: IPVision, SemiDAQ, Bitpipe, ShieldIP
and Saoirse. He was awarded the Entrepreneur
of the Year Award in 1993. Hanover holds
B.S. degrees in electrical engineering and
mathematics from MIT; an M.S. in applied
math from Harvard University; and an OPM
program degree from the Harvard Business
School.
James
LoGerfo
James LoGerfo is the Founder and Principal
of Vortex Energy LLC, a boutique investment
bank focused on raising capital and providing
strategic advisory services to energy &
environmental technology companies. Since
its inception two years ago, Vortex Energy
has completed a number of equity placements,
M&A advisory, and strategic consulting
engagements. Prior to forming Vortex, Mr.
LoGerfo spent six years on Wall Street,
most recently at Bank of America where he
led the formation of a highly successful
energy tech banking and research team. In
the annual Institutional Investor survey
and elsewhere, Mr. LoGerfo was recognized
as a top energy tech research analyst. Before
joining Bank of America, Mr. LoGerfo gained
experience as a public and private equity
investor in positions at the General Motors
Pension Fund and Newbrook Capital. Mr. LoGerfo
is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He graduated
from the University of Washington , Phi
Beta Kappa cum laude with distinction and
received a Ph.D. in Political Science from
Columbia University.
